chasing epic at home + on the road

Parker Mesa Overlook

The girls needed an outing and after reading a few reviews I thought we should try out Parker Mesa Overlook. The 7.3 miles didn’t seem like too much of a stretch. Parker Mesa Overlook is part of Topanga State Park in the Santa Monica mountains. It is considered the largest wildland within the boundaries of a major city and has 36 miles of trails through open grassland and live oaks with some amazing views of the Pacific they say. Of course on the day we went there was fog and those views of the Pacific were pretty much non-existent. Nonetheless, the hike was great and I’d do it again on a clear day and try to time it for a sunset.

To get there we headed north on PCH, turned right on Topanga Canyon Blvd, and then a left on Entrada Road. Drive to the end and then park along the street. The trailhead cannot be missed as there is a huge timber entrance with lots of signage. There are also public restrooms near by in case you need them. The first half of Los Liones Trail is single track but eventually you will branch off to your left and continue up along a fire road. Follow the signs and generally keep to the left to reach the overlook.

All in all, not a bad couple of hours. I would do it again and pay closer attention to the weather forecast so as to really appreciate it.

Cheers Suz
