Lately, I’ve been on a quest to read a whole bunch of really great books. Books that make me feel smarter and impart some wisdom. This, however is not that kind of book. This is no Walden, or Under the Banner of Heaven, or Essentialism, or When Breathe Becomes Air. This is a book that had me laughing from the beginning all the way through to the end. Why? Because it is quite possible that I can relate to Jen’s love of all things Martha Stewart and her believe that if she can follow in Martha’s footsteps then all will be okay. And who can blame her for this thinking? Certainly, not I. I’ve been a fan of Martha’s for decades.
After a terrible year where nothing goes as planned, Jen Lancaster sets out one a quest to take her life to the Martha level. She’s going to get organized and not just stash everything in cupboards or gun cabinets before people come over, she’s going to buy herself some proper underwear, she’s going to have an anniversary party that doesn’t just consist of her and her husband getting drunk in the pool, she’s going to try to sort out her asshole cats, she’s going to come up with a stockpile for the upcoming zombie apocalypse, and so much more.
This book had me laughing so hard at times that I was crying. I wasn’t even half way through it and I had to text my sister to tell her to get a copy. Now, that I’ve finished it I’ve added all Jen’s other books to my library Wish List. Watch out LAPL, I’ll be checking all of them out shortly!
Anyways, if you want a good laugh and you love yourself some Martha then you’ll love this book. Just make sure to keep some tissues handy in case you have the tendency to cry when you laugh.
